Heaven is a State, Not a Place

(Old Post— 2022)

Heaven is a state not a place.

Many religions believe in nirvana or heaven as this amazing place one goes to after death. Depending on the religions one grows up with, this becomes a constant reminder that if we are not doing good enough we won’t get the pot at the end of the rainbow. It can be super scary. I am not here to ruffle anyone’s feathers, I respect everyone’s belief. I do want to note, however, that heaven is not the ultimate reward after a life following certain orders, it is the life itself that can become heaven.

Heaven is a state of mind. That well known secret has been hidden from us for so long that we forgot we are actually in control of what happens in our minds. I read a quote when I was a kid that said, “The mind is its own place and, in itself can make a heaven of hell or a hell of heaven.” John Milton said that, and wow, it really impacted me. I couldn’t quite understand it then, but I knew there was something in it.

It turns out we are living in paradise. We just need to unlock it from within. The key is completely held by you. When I was a kid I thought my life was hell, I went through some rough stuff that took its toll on me. When it all changed for the better, my mind got stuck living in this abusive and dark place. I did not know what to do to change it. Deep down, I don’t think I wanted to. This place was familiar in its anguish and pain, its darkness was like coming home even though it hurt.

Sometimes we have to truly look at the hell we have created in our minds and ask if this is somehow of our own making. Nine times out of ten, the hell is self-created, which means you can get out of it. It is a hard thing to look so coldly at our own life and realize that we actually had an addiction to certain patterns of thinking that got us stuck living a life that was not good for our  physical, emotional, or mental bodies. It is necessary to do it, without acceptance you cannot shift your energy to take the first steps in the right direction.

Heaven is achievable. We can live it right here on earth. God in the Catholic Bible said “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Our father is the creator, the universe, the wisdom within all of us. That observer that lives within, who lives in heaven, can create it here in the material realm as well. It takes some mastery over our monkey mind, but it is achievable. We are already in heaven, it is within us, we just have to realize it and shine that light outwards.

Now, you are probably thinking to yourself how exactly this is possible, if it even is. I want to reiterate that it is. You might not be fully in control of your circumstances yet, but you are able to decide how you approach them. Your actions in the instant that life comes at you is how you reflect the heaven that is inside of you. Everyone’s paradise will look slightly different, but our divine duty and responsibility is definitely to flesh it out.

Why be miserable if you can have absolutely anything you want? Earth is our playground, which I highlight we must take care of so we can keep playing. Your ultimate destiny is to create what you came here to create. If that is a loving family, then so be it. If it is a huge business that changes the world, awesome. If it is just to come eat a chocolate croissant in France, then amazing. We are all here for different purposes, but how we enjoy them will determine if our lives are heaven or hell.

Once we decide that we want to approach life with a heavenly mindset, our lives become a paradise. As within so without! Your inner world reflects your outer. You can change your reality but it truly is dependent on you. I have done so many times over, I think it is your turn. Let’s spread the heavenly state that we can all be a part of, because there is more than enough room for all our desires.
